In the expense rules you can create a rule on the amount per day/week/month/year. It is possible to configure a rule warning to notify the user of the maximum amount they can spend and they already spent and/or when a user is exceeding the maximum amount per day/week/month/year .
Rule warning: maximum amount user can spend and amount already spent
To configure the rule warning you see in the image above as an admin:
1. Go to Admin settings.
2. Go to the Expense rules page.
3. Click + Add expense rule.
4. Set up the expense rule as illustrated:

Choose who will be affected by this rule

Set condition: Amount is more than 0 per day/week/month/year, whichever applies

Set condition: Choose applicable category

Choose 'flag expense' as action and choose the type of flag. For this example, you could use an info flag. Then write a message, include {{totalAmount}} in the message and the total amount already spent will show for the user.
Rule warning: user exceeded maximum amount
To configure the rule warning you see in the image above as an admin:
1. Go to Admin settings.
2. Go to the Expense rules page.
3. Click + Add expense rule.

Set condition: Amount is more than (the maximum amount) per day/week/month/year, whichever applies

Set condition: Choose applicable category

Choose 'flag expense' as action and choose the type of flag. For this example, you could use an out of policy flag. Write a warning message.
Combination of the two rule warnings
You can also choose to set up both rule warnings explained in this article. As an admin, you then just create two separate rule warnings, as explained above.
