What is the Sunshine Act?
The Sunshine Act is a US federal law that brings transparency to the money flowing between the healthcare industry and healthcare professionals. Companies it applies to must report the payments and other transfers of value they give to physicians, certain other healthcare professionals (HCPs), and teaching hospitals — for example meals, travel, or consulting fees. The reports go to CMS (the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) once a year and are published in the Open Payments database.
In general, it applies to companies that make or sell drugs, medical devices, biologicals, or medical supplies covered by federal healthcare programs. Not sure if it applies to your company? Check with your legal or compliance team.
How can Rydoo help you?
With Rydoo, employees add HCPs as attendees on their expenses, using verified data from MedPro. Finance can then export the data, with one row per HCP, per expense, to prepare the report.
HCP data comes from MedPro's US database, so HCPs outside the US can't be searched.
⚠️ Important: Rydoo helps you collect and export the data. Rydoo does not submit your report to the US government. You remain responsible for filing your own report, either directly or through a reporting tool of your choice.
Add HCP attendees to an expense
Employees add HCPs to their expenses as attendees.
-
Open the expense and go to the Attendees field. [screenshot: Attendees field on an expense]
- Click Add attendees and open the HCP tab.
- Search for the HCP by name, state, organization, or NPI (National Provider Identifier).
- Select the HCP from the results and add them to the expense.
- Fill in the other fields configured by your company, such as HCP-related product and HCP interaction duration, and submit the expense.
Once added, you'll see each selected HCP attendee listed on the expense.
💡 If you can't find an HCP, check the spelling or search by NPI. If the HCP still doesn't appear, contact MedPro, as they manage the database.
📱 Also available on mobile.

Reporting
Finance users can export the expenses with HCP attendees for their reporting:
- Go to the Expenses section and select the Finance role.
- Go to All expenses.
- Select the expenses, click Export, and select the Sunshine Act Reporting template.
- Download the file from the Exports page.
The file contains one row per HCP per expense. Each row includes the HCP's details (first name, last name, NPI, state license number(s), specialty, and business address), the amount attributed to that HCP, and the other expense details.
You can use this file to prepare your report yourself, or import it into your reporting tool.
