Through Merchant Category Controls (MCC), you can restrict a card to an approved set of spend categories, so an issued card can be used for related merchant types only.
Here is how it works:
- Set the allowed spending categories when creating a card or when updating an existing one.
- Only the categories you select are permitted. Anything outside the list is declined in real time at the point of sale, with no manual monitoring needed.
- Leave the list empty, and the card stays unrestricted. All categories are allowed by default, so restricting is entirely opt-in.
Cardholders and Approvers can see a card's allowed categories, but only Finance can set or change them.
Available on cards issued by Airwallex only. This feature does not apply to Stripe-issued cards.
